Australia Unlimited + a competition

So you all know that I’m not technically an Australian. But I do consider myself one (as well as being Kiwi and Chinese – in no particular order). Having been here for nearly 9 years, I’ve grown to love this country (but don’t tell the people back home in NZ… I think I’ll be lynched! :p )
You know what I love about this country though? It’s not what’s famous about it overseas. It’s not the beaches and the wide open spaces (to be honest, I’ve seen better overseas… cough). It’s the lifestyle that’s possible here. I don’t wear rose coloured glasses by any means – I’m very aware of the negatives of this country – but the positives outweigh them and I genuinely think this is the best country in the world… for me.
Why am I telling you all this? Because of the new Australia Unlimited ipad app (link will take you to itunes). Don’t have an ipad? (No, I don’t have one either). There’s also a website: australiaunlimited.com.
And what is it?
Australia Unlimited is a free monthly iPad magazine app (and website) that shares compelling stories of people changing the world for the better – through their art, business acumen, research or humanitarian efforts. The common thread is Australia: whether it’s through a person’s place of birth or their experience of living, working or studying in the country, Australia Unlimited examines the contribution the nation’s people is making to global issues.

Wohoo! I’d love to win Bill’s cookbook, as I have traveled quite extensively in the last 20+ years and tasted alot of diverse food; I also like the idea of the iPhone app, embrace the new!

Ooh, I haven’t been to any overseas restaurants with an Australian chef! I DID however wanted to go to Opia which is (was?)Teage Ezard’s award winning restaurant in Hong Kong when I visited in 2009, but somehow it was either closed temporarily (is it still there?)or I just had awful searching skills when I was in HK, but I could not locate it and missed out 🙁 Luckily we have him in Melbourne! Yay!

Even though I haven’t been, I have to say The Ledbury by Brett Graham as he’s an Aussie who has done well and made it big overseas. And by all accounts, his food is amazing.

I’ve said Curtis Stone a couple of times…but now I’m thinking of Miranda Kerr 🙂 I love how she still remembers her Australian roots even though she’s an A-class model now ~

DEFINITELY David Thompson’s Nahm in London. At the end of the day, I still have quite a strong Asian palette. And I like tasting food created by non-Asian chefs who’s had large amount of authentic exposure with the cuisine because they normally mash different cuisines and ideas very well so it’s quite creative. Anyway, just a dream haha!

Sounds like a great app. I will make sure I download it. My favourite restaurant by an Aussie chef would have to be Bill’s venture in London. Haven’t been but his food is amazing & do I’m sure he will do well over there.

I’ve eaten at David Thompson’s Nahm in Bangkok and it was great – so that’s definitely my pick.
