Machi

Machi

Alastair and I had an impromptu date night one Thursday a while ago. I ended up working late and Alastair offered to come out and pick me up so I wouldn’t need to PT home in the dark and the rain – awwww.

On the way home we stopped on Inkerman St for a quick dinner. There’s a few options on that strip, and we decided on Machi, a Japanese restaurant.

Sashimi

I was not particularly hungry so we just ordered a few things to share.

We started with the mix sashimi ($26), which came with salmon, tuna and seared tuna. It was really nicely presented and a fair size for the price.

eggplant

Nasu degaku – miso eggplant ($13) is one of my favourite Japanese dishes and Machi’s version was excellent. Soft eggplants, sweet and salty miso – so good with plain rice.

Pattie

We also had the wagyu meatball ($17) which came out still sizzling in its little cast iron plate.

Salmon

And finally we had one of the specials – miso baked salmon with green vegetables (~$26 from memory). It was nice – the fish wasn’t overwhelmed by the baked miso or soy based sauce.

Dinner was quick, food came rather fast, staff were friendly and it was a pleasant impromptu date evening.

Also, before we ordered I noticed that there’s an option for an omakase ($59pp). The table behind us had a conversation with a waiter about the omakase option, and from what the waiter listed as being included, it sounded like a lot of food. Too bad we weren’t hungry enough for it as it would be a good option for the hungry and indecisive.
