Workshop Brothers
Here is something you must know if you’re doing an op shop crawl: proper sustenance before you begin is very important.
Because if you do a trip that spans five hours and 15+ shops, you need to make sure your energy levels are up and your treasure spotting senses are on top form.
The last time I did an op show crawl with my opping crew (DD, Shellie and Taz – PS my friends we are overdue for one!), we gathered for breakfast at Workshop Brothers, on DD’s suggestion.
Workshop Brothers is a specialty coffee cafe located in Glenhuntly, and yes they’re run by brothers (a trio I believe).
Alastair and Gaz came out for breakfast with us before leaving us to it. Alastair’s dish was one of the specials of the day: a 4 & 7 dime bagel with lemon and dill ricotta, smoked salmon and poached eggs ($15.90)
DD had the other special – the five spice soft shell with chilli, crispy shallots, herbs, cucumber ribbon with nham jim dressing ($17.90).
I ordered the quinoa and parmesan fritters with housemade salmon gravlax, avocado, poached eggs and dill hollandaise ($17.90). This was a nice change to the usual corn fritters. The addition of the quinoa gave the fritters a heavier, nuttier flavour, and they were super filling. The gravlax was great.
Taz had the baked eggs in a lamb ragu, topped with feta and a hint of chilli ($16).
While the lovely Shellie had a breakfast fit for a five year old 🙂 – ricotta hotcakes with grilled nectarines, berry coulis, persian fairy floss, popping candy and orange blossom mascarpone ($16.90). How awesome and fun does this look?
Fully fortified with food and coffee, I was totally ready for some treasure hunting. I enjoyed Workshop Brothers – each dish was done well and the menu had enough choice to make selecting one dish hard. Coffee was good too, and when I ordered my long black I was given a coffee recommendation – hooray for friendly staff. It’s just a shame it’s the other side of town to me; obviously I need to visit DD for breakfast more often.
Oh, and here are my results from our shopping expedition. 😀
(PS: if anyone wants the list of shops we visited to do your own crawl, let me know. I am happy to share.)
