Ike’s Rack Shack
Grab your bib friends, tonight’s post is all about ribs.
(Not whoop ass, like the photo might suggest.)
Ike’s Rack Shack is located in the back room of The Beaufort in Carlton and to really emphasise that shack theme, the floor is astro turf, there’s wooden picnic tables, and corrugated iron on the ceiling.
And racks? The menu focus is ribs – racks of ribs.
There’s pork ribs, beef ribs (with a salt and pepper rub), lamb ribs, and even vegan ribs which are made with quinoa, corn, jalapeno, vegan cheese and paprika.
Ribs are priced from $15 for a half rack, up to $38 for a full pound of pork ribs.
There’s also a three rib rack stack, which we opted for – all three racks for $62. All the ribs are served with jalapeno cornbread and pickled vegetables.
I liked the ribs a lot. They’re smoked overnight, coated with a bourbon-maple glaze and finished off on the chargrill, resulting in fall-off the bone, flavoursome meat.
As well as the ribs, we also had a couple of sides. These were the deep fried pickles.
Oh yes. I don’t think there’s much else I need to say.
Our token green dish – green beans with Bulgaria feta and toasted almonds ($8) were really quite good.
There are also a couple of burgers on the menu. We shared the Out N Out Burger ($15) which contained a beef patty, fresh tomato, onion, cheese, ketchup, and mustard on a damper roll. It came with a pickle on top and fries on the side. There was a nice flavour in the meat patty, though I’m not completely sold on the damper roll as a bun.
To drink, the focus is beer and cocktails.
While the boys had beer, Mama and I had a Dark & Stormy ($10) made with Gosling’s Black Seal rum, ginger beer, bitters, fresh lime and fresh ginger syrup.
Apart from the ribs, fried pickles, sides and cocktails, the OTHER good thing about Ike’s is that they take bookings. Make a booking and go eat some ribs. Recipe for a good night out.

Looks and sounds like a nice night out. The guy in their advertising (who I’m assuming is Ike) looks particularly pleased with himself about it all! 🙂
