Mossgreen Tearooms

Pouring tea

Disclosure: Afternoon tea was courtesy of Mossgreen Tearooms and Q Strategies.

So 2013 seemed to be the year of high/afternoon tea for me, blogging oh 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (!) plus a bonus high coffee. And here’s another one I went to before the year finished: afternoon tea at Mossgreen Tearooms.

Mossgreen Tearooms is next door to the Mossgreen auction house and gallery on High Street in Armadale. The Tearooms are in a large, white, split-level room with large windows at the front that let in plenty of light.

Teapot

I visited late last year with a small group of other bloggers to try out their High/afternoon tea offering. Afternoon tea is $48 per person, with a champagne option for $65 per person. Both options come with a tiered stand of savouries, scones, and cakes.

Teacup

There’s also a tea menu: Darjeeling, Earl Grey, French Earl Grey, English Breakfast, Really Russian, Japanese Sencha, Oolong, Silver Needles, Just Rose, Turkish Mint, Peppermint Tea and a Mossgreen Signature Blend. Teas are from the T2 range.

Table

I had Silver Needles, a delicate white tea. A couple of people around me selected the Mossgreen Signature Blend, which was made up of crushed Sri Lankan tea leaves infused with kaffir lime and citrus zest. This was an interesting tea… a bit reminiscent of tom yum soup!

Three tiers

The food menus at Mossgreen have been designed by Peter Rowland Gold, the new top-tier arm of the well known catering company. Afternoon tea is served on a three-tiered stand, and the cups and teapots are Wedgwood fine bone china from the Butterfly Bloom collection.

Savouries

Savouries include little finger sandwiches: smoked salmon; cucumber cream cheese; Waldorf chicken and cheddar and relish.

Middle and bottom tier

The savouries also included a couple of hot choices: quiche and a small pie.

Top and middle tier

The top tier held teeny tiny scones, plus jam and cream.

Single tier

And the middle tier held a selection of little cakes and macarons. My favourites were the lemon and poppyseed and the chocolate mousse.

Single tier

Mossgreen do a good afternoon tea: the setting is elegant, and the sweet selection is particularly well done. But if afternoon tea isn’t your thing, they also serve breakfast and lunch.
