Disclosure: My month trial of weekly produce boxes was courtesy of Kelly Bros.

Last month, I woke up on Thursdays to a box of fruit and vegetables sitting by the front door, thanks to Kelly Bros. No hauling fruit and veg home from the market – it just showed up like magic for a month.

Kelly Bros are a family owned and managed business, who have been farming in Victoria for six generations (!). They farm, they harvest, and they deliver, with three options for home delivered fruit and vegie boxes.

A small box (that I received) is $28 and is good for 1-2 people, weighing about 6-7kg.

A medium box costs $38, suits 3 people or small families, weighing about 10-12kg.

The last and largest box is $45, weighs about 12-15kg and is about right for 4 people or larger families.

All boxes normally contain 3 types of fruit and 10 types of vegetables, with the prices include delivery. Boxes are delivered before 7AM, 6 days a week – the day is determined on which zone your address is located in.

As you can see, the boxes came with a variety of fruit and vegetables and they were all of good quality. I liked the selection that came in the boxes – there was an interesting mix along with welcome staples like potatoes and carrots. There were a couple of items that challenged me – in a good way – ingredients that I wouldn’t normally buy and had to get out of my usual cooking zone with.

For example, from week one, the watercress had me stumped. I actually didn’t know what it was… how bad is that? Obviously I have never purchased watercress before in my life! Thankfully the website cleared things up for me. I ended up making pesto from it – recipe to be blogged.

I also found the parsley from week two AND week three challenging. One – there was quite a lot of it – the herbs came in rather big bunches. And two, normally I would never buy parsley. I must admit that I hope to never have so much parsley in my home ever again! I ended up making chimichurri – recipe to be blogged – but beyond that I don’t know what else you can do with parsley. Tabouli?

But it’s good to get out of your comfort zone a little, isn’t it?

There are other home delivered produce services available in Melbourne (I’ve used a different one before) but the good thing about Kelly Bros is that they grow almost everything that comes in the box. The majority of their vegetables and salad mix comes direct from their farm at Yarrawonga in north-east Victoria, with the fruit mainly being sourced from farms in the Goulburn Valley.

It’s great that Kelly Bros offers three sizes of boxes – the reason I stopped with the service I used previously is that they only offered large or small. At the time we had three people living in the house and I needed an intermediate size.

All these services nowadays are so good – why waste your time doing these things when you can have it delivered straight to your house? Thanks Kelly Bros for the trial and for helping me figure out exactly how much I dislike parsley. šŸ™‚
