Common Ground
This post is short but sweet – a bit like Common Ground.
Located on Carlisle Street in Balaclava, Common Ground is a charming little place. The menu is brief: a few breakfast dishes, toasted bagels, plus pirozhki (Russian dumplings) and blintzes.
I had lunch there with my work BFF recently. I ordered the Mary had a Little Bagel ($15): a bagel jaffle with slow cooked lamb shoulder, pickled green tomato salad and tasty cheese. It came with another pickle on the side and some sauerkraut.
My bagel was fairly simple but tasty, and I particularly liked the sour/sweetness of the pickled tomato. And I always approve of extra pickles on the side. Piiiiiickles.
Work BFF had a Bagel with Shmear ($12) – a toasted bagel with creamy egg dip, spring onion and dill.
On another day, I tried their plate of blintzes ($10) – these thin pancake/crepe were filled with beef and came with sauerkraut, egg salad and a pickle.
I thought Common Ground was really cute – there’s something very likeable about it.
