He Says She Says
Our friends April and Lky welcomed Junior Food Trail into the world recently. Seven weeks or so later – due to the nature of social media and photo updates – I felt like I’d met the little man, even though I actually hadn’t see him in person.
This was rectified recently when Alastair and I had lunch at He Says, She Says with the Food Trail family, plus Kat and Josh.
He Says, She Says is a cafe, restaurant and bar in Camberwell. It’s a pretty large place – on a corner block – with lots of windows and natural light. They’re also very child friendly, with a special kid’s menu, that they leave behind with colouring pencils for the kid to colour in.
Being right on the edge of lunch and breakfast, Alastair opted for something off the breakfast menu while I had something from the lunch menu.
Alastair’s dish was the sweet corn and cheddar hotcakes with tomato relish and a poached egg ($15.90). He said it was nice enough but needed a bit more seasoning. April also ordered this, and her and Alastair both agreed that it needed bacon. So a recommendation for this dish if you’re ever at HSSS – add bacon.
Actually, that’s a good life motto: add bacon.
I had lunch and made a better choice, in my humble opinion. For lunch there’s some small sharing snack dishes, salads, sandwiches and larger dishes like risotto, pasta, or a burger.
I selected a sandwich (which are served with either fries or salad) – the pulled lamb shoulder with tzatziki, hummus, green olives, and pistachio tabouli ($14.50). It tasted good and was quite tangy and garlicky with the tzatziki. I would have loved for it to be served warm but that is a very small niggle.
I thought it was great how kid friendly HSSS is, and my sandwich was yum. The dinner menu looks like it could be good too.
And Junior Food Trail was perfect the entire meal (tho we’re told it’s a different story when he’s at home). What an angelface.

But should your burger have had bacon? Your entire life motto depends on your answer.
