Homemade beef jerky

What a surprise – beef jerky really doesn’t photograph well. So thank you dear instagram filters making shitty photos look still shitty but in a retro way.

Did you know you can make beef jerky at home? And it’s REALLY easy?? I just about fell off my chair when I found out. It’s one of those things I’d NEVER thought to try making.

This week in brief

Oh hello! I’m currently sitting in the sun soaking up the sunshine. The cats are stretched out next to me, also soaking up some rays. Cats have good lives, no?

Yes another cat photo – apologies to cat haters – but awwww I love them so. Particularly that big dumb one on the right. SQUISH. This photo is from yesterday night – Alastair and Bro were out, so the cats and I had cuddle time while I caught up on ANTM (go ahead and judge, I am not ashamed).

Taste of Melbourne 2011: opening night

Disclosure: Alastair and I received an entry pass courtesy of Hothouse Media and Taste of Melbourne. We paid for our own crowns.

Is anyone heading to Taste of Melbourne this weekend? Just like last year, Alastair, Bro and I stopped by the gorgeous Royal Exhibition Building on the opening night to check it out.

Cruising: the food

In my previous cruise post, I mentioned that some of the food was good and some of it was terrible. Mostly it was okay. But considering the limitations of cooking on a massive ship for almost 1800 passengers and 800 crew, I think generally the chefs did a good job.

As an aside, my only regret from the whole trip is that I didn’t get my arse out of bed early enough to go to the chef’s demo and GALLEY TOUR on one of the last days of the cruise (and when I say early, I mean 10am. Hopeless, truly hopeless.) Remember that I am not a morning person, though normally even 10am is okay for me. I blame needing to get up early the previous couple of days to go island visiting. I desperately wanted a lie in!
